The App That Rules them All

This app integrates the control of seven Monster speakers, which are the GI30, Rockin’ RollerX, GLO, GLO2, Solara, DECORA and RETRO. Consider it a digital conductor for your “wireless audio management” system that replaces the earlier requirement of the Monster Rockin’ app and EZ-Play app. You can connect as many as «eight» speakers simultaneously with EZ-Play connectivity or pair two devices through True Wireless Stereo mode for synchronized sound. It’s possible to manage volume, input sources, equalizer settings and LED lights in the same location. Users can also tune FM radio and save their favourite channels. Also, the DECORA speakers are enabled with their own alarm.

It’s quick to switch between speaker models, which is helpful if you have a number of Monster devices in your various indoor and outdoor spaces. Use the LED lighting control to set the mood for any occasion, while the equalizer (and an additional bass boost option) gives you complete control over sound. For gatherings, the party feature lets you sync speakers to create an «outdoor speaker control» that takes over the space, instead of scattered devices.

The truth about the ratings

The app, however, has just a 1.5-star rating from 1,000 users on Google Play, which shows that some users are actually quite frustrated. According to the user feedback, the interface might not be very stable and reliable. That is, it seems like the « music playback controller » is not very reliable every time.

The app won’t work offline since you’ll need an Internet connection. The Monster speaker ecosystem remains your only choice with no other device integration or broader smart home compatibility, harming flexibility should you get other Monster hardware.

The business model raises questions too. The app does not feature in-app purchases or make money from advertisements, and it’s free. While that is good for your wallet at the moment, it may affect the long-term growth and features updates later on.

Not everyone needs a party speaker app

If you already own the Monster outdoor audio range, Monster Zone Control makes a great deal of sense as it gives centralized control of multiple speakers. You can use this device with up to eight devices simultaneously which can come in handy during an event. Further, it helps to have everything in one place rather than having to manage different apps. If you manage your expectations, the ratings and interface aren’t too shabby. This was not meant to be a full-featured experience but a working tool for a specific family of hardware with all its warts.
